We do not feel that addiction in and of itself is a “disease” but nor do we think that the root is easily defined as beginning with “a choice”. Sure – sometimes it is. And in those cases, a dependency can be chemical and it can be hormonal. But in so many of the cases that we deal with, it is rooted in a desperate search for a solution and is most often a means to cope with some other pain, or inability to deal with any number of things. The definition as a disease allows for real issues to be dealt with through medical means and that is a good thing. Thanks for asking.
